Attention all ECOTS members!
It’s that time of year again. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome all past and potential curlers back for another fun and entertaining season. The 2010 – 2011 Mixed Curling League is set to begin this year on Sunday October 18th, and we will go to early April. This again will give us 20 Sundays for league play and playoffs, based on available weeks at the club. The time, as in the past, will be 11:00am. If there is sufficient interest we have the ability to expand the league to include two draw times, (9:00am if needed).
To ensure each team gets to play every week, we will only accept an even number of teams. This means you should get your application in early to ensure you have a spot. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. As always, we encourage players and teams of all skill levels to come out. Each year we have a number of beginners, and it is always satisfying to see them learn the game and progress in their abilities. The application form is available on the website under Mixed Curling.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRY WITH PAYMENT – OCTOBER 9TH, 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS.
The league and playoff format will depend on the number of teams registered, but there will be at least one round robin, so that every team has an opportunity to play all other teams. The league schedule will be communicated prior to the start of the season.
Things you need to know at a glance.
1) League Chairman This is a “MIXED” league and as such your team should consist of 2 men and 2 women. As a minimum, the skip and mate of each team must be of opposite sex.2) The cost this year will be $185.00 per player, the same as last year. Full payment is preferred up front, but can be paid in 2 installments – the first by the application deadline and the second by January 1st. Applications will not be considered complete until payment is received, and you will not be able to curl the first date unless your full payment has been received. Partial payments will not be accepted. Given the problems that have arisen in the past regarding this issue, this rule will be strictly adhered to this year.
3) Please be aware that this season, as well as last, the club will be charging a $20.00 fee for 9:00am make up games. It has been indicated that this is to cover staffing costs. This is understandable; especially when you consider that we are not charged for the ice time for make up games. This fee will be paid by the team that has had to reschedule the game and is due at the completion of the game.
4) In addition to the above, there will be a maximum number of games that a team is allowed to make up during the season. Each time will be permitted to reschedule two games per session. If a team has a third game that is unable to be played during the scheduled time, that game will be forfeited with the opposition receiving the points that would be awarded had the game been played. This will hopefully limit the inconvenience incurred by teams having to play back to back games on Sunday morning.
5) All participants must be ECOTS members. Any applicant who is not a current member must join now and re-new their membership on January 1st, 2010. If you are not currently an ECOTS member, complete the application form on this website and submit it along with payment ($30 individual, $50 family). Membership and curling fees may be paid by cheque, cash (in person only) or Visa/MC through our treasurer Ken White or myself.
